Flash Lectures with George Mason University’s Department of History and Art History

March 20 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

In the Fairfax area? Grab lunch and head to George Mason to learn more about 1619. The year 1619 marked both the formation of the first democratic assembly in the New World and the arrival of the first Africans to English North America. GMU’s Department of History and Art History will commemorate the 400th anniversary of that year with three short, pop-up lectures that explore the significance of 1619 in American history.

3/20 – Dr. Rosemarie Zagarri, “1619: When Democracy Came to America”
3/27 – Dr. Theodore McCord, “John Page, An Immigrant in Virginia: From the House of Burgess to the Royal Council”
4/3 – Dr. John Turner, “Pilgrim Envy: Virginia and the First Thanksgiving”

The events are free and refreshments are provided.
