Recently named one of Frommer’s Best Places To Go In 2019, it’s no secret that Virginia is full of popular tourist attractions. People travel through the Commonwealth all summer long to see the places where America’s history began. It’s the only state in which you can walk the known footsteps of the settlers in Jamestown or honor more than 400,000 military graves at Arlington Cemetery’s 624 acres.

This summer, download the Virginia History Trails app and take summer travel to the next level. The 2019 Commemoration, American Evolution award-winning app is a collection of historic destinations throughout Virginia that tell the stories of the first 400 years of Virginia’s history.

Whether you’re driving across the state, or flying to a certain destination, you can take advantage of Virginia’s rich history by downloading the app and discovering known, under-known and unknown trails and sites.

Summer travelers, families, Virginia residents and history enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds are invited to explore 20 themed trails, more than 200 historic places and more than 400 detailed story descriptions. The Virginia History Trails app provides you with a customized experience based on your location and personal interests, so you won’t have any trouble making travel plans this summer.

The app includes places that are great pit stops as you’re driving through the state, such as Mount Vernon in Northern Virginia, the George Washington Birthplace National Monument in the Northern Neck and the Patsy Cline Historic House in Winchester, as well as places that have hours of fun, like Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond.

As part of a kick-off to the summer season, the Commemoration is hosting the “Summer Fun Contest” for Virginia History Trails sites. Help your favorite site win by giving it a like or check-in from June 15 to July 20.

With so many sites in the Virginia History Trails app, using it this summer is a great way to encourage learning through travel with all of your friends and family. The free and fun app is available for download in the App Store and Google Play.
