The Commonwealth of Virginia invites all Americans to “Come Home to Virginia” for the Virginia Customs, Cultures, and Cuisine Festival in November 2019. Visitors and locals alike will enjoy a variety of premier events, festivals and special programming that draw on 400 years of Virginia’s unique history and culture. This special month-long statewide festival will serve as a momentous capstone to the American Evolution, 2019 Commemoration.

SAMPLING THE CENTURIES: VIRGINIA’S FOOD FIRSTS

November 2, 2019
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, VA

An event featuring Virginia chefs creating dishes that represent each era from the 1600s to today – and beyond into the future. In addition, the event will showcase farmers, brewers, wine and cider makers, distillers, others involved in the food industry and experimental firsts at Virginia State University and elsewhere in the Commonwealth.

VIRGINIA THANKSGIVING FESTIVAL

November 3, 2019
Berkeley Plantation, Charles City County, Virginia
Upon safe arrival at Berkeley Hundred on December 4, 1619, a group of English settlers held a ceremony of Thanksgiving, which was to be observed annually and perpetually. The Virginia Thanksgiving Festival event showcases cultural performances and a re-enactment of the first official English Thanksgiving in North America.

ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA

November 5-9, 2019
Williamsburg, Hampton and Richmond, Virginia
This conference will feature cutting edge scholarship, cultural events, film festivals and excursions to local historical sites that highlight and celebrate the global dimensions of the African Diaspora and the centrality of black people worldwide to the making of the modern world. SALUTE TO THE MILITARY AND DEMOCRACY

Virginia Beach-Sandler Center
The Virginia Arts Festival will create a Joint Service Band drawing from local professional bands to include Fleet Forces Band (Navy), TRADOC Band (Army), U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band (Air Force) and elements from the Armed Forces School of Music (Army, Navy, Marine Corps). This all-star military ensemble will have conductors from each professional band conducting portions of the show.

POCAHONTAS REFRAMED FILM FESTIVAL

November 21 – 24, 2019
Byrd Theater, Richmond, Virginia
The Pocahontas Reframed: Storytellers Film Festival includes Native American-affiliated classic and recently released films that have been official selections of world-renowned festivals including the Sundance Film Festival, the South by Southwest Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.
