TAKE BACK THE SPIRIT OF THANKSGIVING

Like America, Thanksgiving started in Virginia. On December 4, 1619, settlers observed a ceremony of Thanksgiving on the banks of the James River in Virginia upon their safe arrival to the New World. This ceremony marked America’s first official English Thanksgiving, a full year and 17 days before the Pilgrims landed in Massachusetts. Join the 2019 Commemoration as we commemorate the holiday in its rightful birthplace.

In November 2018, American Evolution is Taking Back the Spirit of Thanksgiving and encouraging Virginians and Americans to remember the true meaning of Thanksgiving as a time for giving thanks, coming together despite differences, and taking care of our families and neighbors.
