Dance Theatre of Harlem premieres a piece that evokes the fight and fortitude of Virginia’s – and America’s – beginnings

Choreographer Claudia Schreier heard the evocative score composed by Jessie Montgomery and was reminded of water – an ebb and flow of life, something constant and changing.

The award-winning choreographer knew she had the perfect score for a ballet that hints to America’s journey that began on Virginia’s shores, an undulating story of beginnings and endings, conflict and on-going resolution.

Schreier is part of a team selected to create the ballet “Passage,” which premieres this weekend at Chrysler Hall.
