Global Pathfinder Summit
Charlottesville
May 20-24, 2019

Nearly 150 emerging political, government, and civic leaders from around the globe, representing 51 countries and Virginia, convened for an immersive series of sessions focused on leadership development, global networking, and civic engagement. Arriving from points around the globe as varied as Uganda, Sri Lanka, Albania, Mexico, and the Philippines, the young leaders reflected on the challenges of leadership and governance in both 21st-century democracies and states aspiring to democracy. The Summit featured a rich variety of speeches, panel discussions, seminars, workshops, volunteer activities with local nonprofits, and presidential home visits. Among the featured speakers were Egyptian engineer, activist, and social entrepreneur Wael Ghonim, Prime Minister Ralph E. Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and prominent historians Dr. Brian Balogh and Dr. Joanne B. Freeman. A lasting legacy of the event is a digitally connected global network of Summit participants that will facilitate the sharing of ideas and experiences on civic engagement and topics of mutual interest across international borders well into the future. The Global Pathfinder Summit was hosted by the Presidential Precinct and generously supported by Dominion Energy, Altria, McGuireWoods, University of Virginia, and CGI.
