2017 Tom Tom Founders Festival
April 10-16, 2017
The 2019 Commemoration is proud to be a sponsor of the Tom Tom Founders Festival, a week of music, art, and innovation held over Thomas Jefferson’s birthday week that converges hundreds of bands, start-ups, artists and visionaries with the purpose of celebrating creative founding. Tom Tom explores diverse disciplines — society, education, energy, food and technology — and links the rich history of the city and Commonwealth with an exploration into the future.
Events and activities over the course of the week will include community workshops, culinary competitions, city art projects, concerts, forums, film screenings, and much more.
This year, the 2019 Commemoration will be present at a number of Tom Tom events including:
Youth Summit (April 13) – This student planned and student led ticketed Summit experience convenes high school students, educators, and civic leaders from across Virginia to hear inspirational stories from youth driven speakers and participate in high energy challenges that inspire entrepreneurial problem solving.
Founders Summit (April 14) – An outstanding assembly of entrepreneurs share their founding stories and offer advice on starting up anything, anywhere. A series of discussions and workshops offer access to some of America’s most impactful innovators, as well as exclusive opportunities to meet your next business partner, investor, or star employee. The Homegrown Trailblazers panel, presented by the 2019 Commemoration, will feature keynote speakers Anne Marie Slaughter (President & CEO, New America) and Ting Xu (Cofounder, Evergreen Enterprises, CEO, Plow & Hearth). Other sessions include From Basements to Bcorps, Passions and Platforms, Building a Movement for “Hidden Figures”, Impact Through Design, and Incubators, Startups, and Investors.
