“Voices from the Garden will memorialize 12 incredible women for their achievements and contributions to Virginia and national history. It’s the first monument recognizing women’s powerful and enduring achievements that strengthened and advanced 400 years of America’s evolution,” said Kathy Spangler, Executive Director, 2019 Commemoration, AMERICAN EVOLUTIONTM. “The March to Mother’s Day campaign allows us to raise awareness and funding to support the monument’s construction while also offering a unique opportunity for people to honor a woman who has made a significant impact on their life.”

AMERICAN EVOLUTION™ explores key 1619 Virginia events that shaped America, the intervening 400 years of history and how these events continue to influence the future. These events include the recruitment of English women in significant numbers to the Jamestown colony in 1619. In support of the Virginia Women’s Monument, the AMERICAN EVOLUTION™ March to Mother’s Day campaign is examining the pivotal impact of women in 1619 Virginia, and commemorating how their myriad significant achievements over the past four centuries have shaped every aspect of today’s America.
